Preparing Honey for Shows - A Talk by Michael Young

Monday 20th August

New Mid Antrim Apiary at Cullbackey

To Combined R&DBKA and MABKA Members

On Monday 20th August a joint event between R&DBKA and MABKA was held at the new Mid Antrim Apiary at Cullbackey.

Michael Young, member of R&BKA, MABKA and Chairman of INIB had brought along an extensive array of bee products and gave a fascinating talk on how to prepare the items for showing at the various Honey Shows held throughout Northern Ireland and beyond.

His detailed talk covered everything from advance planning, preparation of containers, making beeswax models and candles, creating exhibits and displays to making and showing mead. Michael also gave several examples of photographic entries and caustic paintings, all the while advising the mesmerised audience as to what worked and what did not and what the judges were looking for.

The main reason for the talk was to encourage beekeepers to enter shows. The Mid Antrim Honey Show is on Thursday 27th September at Cullybackey Community Centre,

The INIB Honey Show is an integral part of the INIB Annual Conference on Saturday 27th October at St Patrick's Church in Ballymena and R&DBKA are planning their first show in 2008.
